Anna Bell Jemmott, one of seven children, was born to William and Rosa Jemmott in DeFuniak Springs, Florida on May 19, 1920.
Ms. Jemmott, a star athlete, graduated from Tivoli High School in 1938. She earned an Associate’s Degree from Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, Florida in 1942 and went on to receive her Certification in Elementary Education from Florida A&M University. Ms. Jemmott began her teaching career with the Jackson County School District in Marianna, Florida where she taught for more than ten years. Over the years, she taught in Okaloosa County and Walton County including her alma mater, Tivoli High School.
She was a lifelong member of Greater St. Joseph A.M.E. Church. Ms. Jemmott was a dedicated and willing servant in her beloved church. She served as a Church School Teacher, Choir Member, Missionary, Stewardess, Class Leader and President of the A.M.E. Church League. She especially enjoyed helping to administer Holy Communion to home bound members and those in nursing home care. Ms. Jemmott chaired many committees and received numerous awards and recognitions for her tireless service in various ministries.
Ms. Jemmott was devoted to her family as demonstrated by the many years she spent in giving loving care to her mother, nieces and nephews. She touched their lives and those of many others with her love, humor and simple joy of life.
She leaves loving memories to her sister, Effie Harding; sister-in-law, Martha Jemmott; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
