Curlee Coleman

December 1, 1932 ~ June 15, 2016 (age 83) 83 Years Old


Mr. Curlee Coleman was the oldest of 4 children born December 1, 1932 to the late Theresa B. Sharpe and Curtis Lindsey of Freeport, Florida. Curlee was raised by his grandparents, Sonnie and Martha Bronson on the Westside of DeFuniak Springs.

He received his education at Tivoli High School. After high school he joined the United States Army in 1952 where he served as a Combat Engineer and also received the Good Conduct Medal. Upon receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1957, Mr. Coleman and his family would move back to DeFuniak Springs, Florida. After a few local construction jobs, Mr. Coleman worked outside of Walton County in the road construction business until his retirement in 1998.

Mr. Coleman would arise early to make sure he got the grandchildren to school on time. (Elementary, Middle and High)

On a nice warm morning you could find Mr. Coleman dressed in his Florida Gator attire in the front yard reading his morning newspaper and waving to everyone that passed. Mr. Coleman was a avid lover of the Florida Gator sports. He loved all sports. The Gators were his favorite college team. He would tell his kids in order to learn something about sports you need to start at the college level.

In 1975, he reclaimed his life with Christ. At the age of 83, Mr. Coleman was called home by the Lord on June 15, 2016 and he answered. Curlee will greatly be missed by his loving family.

Mr. Coleman is preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 61 years, Joyce E. Coleman; daughters: SeBrina Lynn and Nena Carlett Coleman and his great granddaughter, TaKenja Rochelle Parker.

Mr. Coleman leaves a legacy of four children: BeLinda “Gail” Coleman of Gretna, LA; Youlanda (Truman) Guice of DeFuniak Springs, FL; TeRandell Coleman, Sr., of  Dothan, AL and TeRhonda Coleman of Birmingham, AL;

Grandchildren: Kendrick J. Parker, Kyra (James) Harris, TeRandell Coleman, Jr., Justin Coleman J. Leonard, Patrick Coleman, Kaeyleah Lewis, Chekedra Coleman, Daniel Jackson II; Te’Ondria Guice, TyRhonda Battle, Twynette Battle, Tyranique Battle and Deonica Floyd;

Great Grandchildren: Kendrick Parker II, Ja’Rian Webb, Kentrell Parker, Kaifred Webb, Kyree Parker, Ti’Jannae Parker, Kalanza Caldwell, Ja’Brina Caldwell, Ja’Lon Lewis, TeRandell “Corde” Coleman III, Keiana Coleman, Kyrahn Harris, Ja’Mia Leonard, Teliyah Coleman, Jayla Leonard, Justin Coleman, Jr., Terrell Coleman, Tavion Coleman, Payton Coleman, SeBrina Leonard, Javadious Lewis and Carlett Shider;

Brothers: Cornelius (Patricia) Coleman of Covina, CA; Gaines (Marcy) Coleman of Ventura, CA and Frankie Sharpe, Santa Monica, CA;

Godchildren: Ronnie (Adrienne) Bell, Sarah (Clarence) Williams Tolliver and Sonya Lee;

Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
