Argertha, affectionately known as “Gert” was born May 27, 1934.

She was the fourth child born to Robert Cotton, Sr and Rosa Lee Cotton in Clayton, Alabama.

Her family relocated to DeFuniak Springs, Florida in the 40's. Argertha was raised in a loving Christian home.

She was educated at Tivoli High School, graduating with the class of 1952. Upon graduating she married Mr. Willie James Pace. To this union six children were born, one preceded her in death, Roxanne Pace.

At an early age, Argertha united with the Union Springs Missionary Baptist Church and served faithfully for many years as a Senior Choir member. She had a great passion for singing. In 1975, Argertha and Mrs. Rosa Price had a vision for a gospel singing group. From their vision, Pace and Price (P&P) Gospel singers had their beginning. Their group traveled Alabama and the Florida panhandle singing praises to God and lifting the name of Jesus. Once Sister Works got the microphone to sing, you better believe there was a mighty move of God in the spirit.

She served faithfully until she moved to Caryville, Florida, joining Ransom Works in Holy Matrimony and she became affiliated with the Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church. There she served faithful until her health would not allow her to attend every Sunday.

She transitioned from earth to glory on August 30, 2019 in Tallahassee, Florida surrounded by her loving children.

She leaves to cherish her memory, husband, Ransom Works, Caryville, Florida; children Patricia Lee (Fred), DeFuniak Springs, Florida, Debra Pace Mitchell (Treamine), Tallahassee, Florida, Charles Pace, Woodbridge, Virginia, Ben Pace (Sheila), Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Dwunnda Pace, Tallahassee, Florida; Donaldson Campbell (like a son), Sunny Hills, Florida; sisters: Dorothy Reaves, Fort Walton Beach, Florida, (Alexander Reaves, deceased) and Shirley Cotton, DeFuniak Springs, Florida; six stepchildren: Ollie M. Stuckey, Cleveland Works, Clementine Howard (Elder Tony), Cheryl Peterson, Almeanus Works and Darrel Works (Barbara); sisters-in-law: Ella Weese Jones, Caryville, Florida and Janice Jones of Las Vegas, Nevada; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
