Annie Campbell Obituary

Annie Ruth Cornelius Campbell died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010, in her DeFuniak Springs, Fla., home. She had been in declining health for the past two years.


She was born on Jan. 3, 1922, in Macon, Ga. She moved to the DeFuniak Springs community in 1945 where she worked in the Walton County school system. She later worked in the Okaloosa County school system, from which she retired in 1989.
Annie Ruth was a graduate of Talladega College, Ala., did graduate work at the University of Michigan, and received master's degrees from both Atlanta University and Florida State University. Her areas of specialization were mathematics, chemistry library science and media services.


Annie Ruth was actively engaged in the religious, civic, and social life of her community. She assumed roles of increasing responsibility in the Presbyterian Church, serving as a delegate to the National Synod, past Moderator of the Florida Presbytery, and Elder at Bethel Presbyterian Church. She received numerous honors for her work in education and civic affairs.
She is survived by her son, Norman Preston (Marva); two granddaughters, Kalinda and Kamaria; a brother, Mark Earl Cornelius (Paula); two foster sons, Cornelius Coleman (Patricia), and Russell Holloway (Karla); sister-in-law, Ethel Cornelius; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.


Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, at the First Presbyterian Church in De Funiak Springs. The family will receive visitors on Friday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Park Funeral Home on South Park Street.
