Dorothy was born on May 29th 1941 in DeFuniak Springs, FL to Robert Cotton, Sr. and Rosa Lee Guice Cotton.
She was educated at Tivoli High School in DeFuniak Springs.
She later married Alexander Reaves, Jr. and moved to Fort Walton Beach in the 1960’s. She then joined Greater Peace Missionary Baptist Church where she faithfully loved attending church and spending time with family and friends.
She worked for Sam Clarke Janitorial Services for over 20 years.
She was preceded by her husband, Alexander Reaves; her father Robert Cotton, Sr.; her mother Rosa Lee Guice Cotton; three sisters: Josephine Guice, Rosa Nell Cotton Baker, and Argertha Pace Works; and five brothers: Willie (Jenny) Guice, Fred Cotton, Robert Cotton Jr., Lamar(Jennell) Cotton and Henry Cotton (Mary Lou).
Mama Dot leaves to cherish her loving memory a daughter, Janice Reaves Beal; and sons: Tony (Mary Ann) Reaves and Jeffery (Virginia) Reaves; her sister Shirley Cotton and brothers-in-law: Curtis Reaves and Ransom Works; goddaughters: Shanna McGriff and Erin Robinson; grandchildren: Hakim Shaheed Reaves, Sr., Ashley Alexander Reaves, Thomas Alexander Reaves, Jaida Reaves, Tamara Davenport Munn; great grandchildren: Hakim Shaheed Reaves, Jr., Breanina Alexander Reaves, Titus Reaves, De’Angelo Reaves and a host of nieces and nephews and friends; special friends: Edora McGriff, Patricia Sowell, Carrie Gainer, Annie Scaife.
