Isker Smith, Jr. was born on December 28, 1938 to Isker Sr., and Mable Smith who preceded him in death. He was affectionately called "Joe". He was raised by his grandmother: (Mary Jackson) aunt Adell (Archie) McLester and uncle, Alexander (Ruth) Smith.
Joe graduated from Tivoli High School in 1957, then attended Florida A & M University and completed a Barbering Progam. He was employed at Eglin Air Force Base for over 30 years. Also, he owned and operated Smith's Barbershop in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
Joe was a member of Greater Saint Joseph A.M.E. Church and served as a Steward, a choir member and sang with the West Florida Echoes.Joe's greatest joy was spending time with his family, working as a barber, working in his yard, and cooking. In addition, he was a talented ceramic artist who displayed many of his finest pieces throughout his home and shared with family and close friends. He was frequently invited to display his ceramic artistry at the Walton County Annual Fair.
Joe is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years: Katie J. Smith; twin daughters: Dr. Trici (Donald) Holmes, Kennesaw, GA and Dia (Laron) Washington, Prattville, AL; godchildren: Dr. Kendall (Kali) Campbell, Greenville, NC, Robert Cain, Jr., Panama City, FL; brothers: Carl Lee (Carolyn) Smith, Chicago, IL, Bernard (Beverly)Smith, DeFuniak Springs, FL; one aunt: Ruth G. Smith, DeFuniak Springs, FL; special niece: Carliss Smith, Tampa, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
