John was preceded in death by his parents: Joseph M. and Barbara Smith Butler.

He served his country in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge.

John is survived by his brother: Michael Butler of DeFuniak Springs, Florida; sisters: Linda Pettijohn and Mary Trowell and husband Barry all of DeFuniak Springs, Florida and Carol Mitchell of Tallahassee, Florida; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
