Katherine T. McGuire Russ, 74, of Apalachicola and Panama City, Florida was called home on Saturday, June 16, 2018 in Panama City, Florida.
She was born in DeFuniak Springs, Florida on October 21, 1943. Katherine was the daughter of the late Mose and Inez McGuire.
She joined St. Mark A.M.E. Church on Bruce Avenue at an early age and after marriage, St. John Baptist Church in Panama City, Florida.
On June 30, 1962, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Peter Russ, Jr., at St. Paul Methodist Church in DeFuniak Springs, Florida.
Tivoli High School has provided the educational foundations for many high school graduates. Katherine graduated with honors and continued to utilize those skills at Post-secondary colleges. On May 28, 1963, she graduated from Rosenwald Junior College and earned an A.A. Degree. After graduating from Rosenwald Junior College, she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from the College of Education at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University on April 17, 1965. Educational teaching experiences included employment at Glenwood Elementary, Drummond Park Elementary and Cedar Grove Elementary Schools in Panama City, Florida.
Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, the late Mose and Inez W. McGuire, sisters, Barbara Jean McGuire and Theresa McGuire, and brother Daniel Jr. McGuire.
She leaves to cherish her memories, a devoted son, Peter Terence Russ, III; Grandchildren, Brittany A. Russ, Brandy A. Russ and Peter Terence Russ IV; Great Grandchildren, Kaden J. Russ, Makayla N. Lewis and Talaia O. Washington; Sister, Rose E. McCoy-Thomas (Stelbert); Brothers, Darrel McGuire (Sandi) and Dr. Anthony McGuire; Nieces, Renee M. Champion, Taryn Jones (Michael), Susan Thomas Brown (Felix); Nephews, Leaurenza Champion, Jr., Darrel McGuire, Jr., Aaron Moses McGuire, and Ralph McBride; Special Cousins, Mary Paul, Rose Randolph (Carl), Betty Griffin and a host of great nieces, nephews and other cousins and in-laws.
