Mary Magdalene Haisley was born on August 20, 1939, to Isaac “Ike” Haisley, Sr. and Rena Bell McGuire Haisley. Mary was the sixth of nine children. Mary was born and raised in Walton County and attended school at Popular Springs and Tivoli High School.
In the late 1950s, Mary married her high school sweetheart, Roosevelt Paul, and four children were born to this union.
Mary was employed for many years at Showell Farms, Inc., and then moved on to be employed with the Tri-County Transportation Department, where she retired with twenty-four years of service.
In the early 1950s, Mary was baptized at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and remained a devoted member throughout her life. Over the years, she gave faithful service to her church, serving as Sunday School Secretary and Senior Usher Board Secretary, and providing leadership as President of both the Senior Choir and the Mission Department.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Ike and Rena Haisley; her husband, Roosevelt Paul; her daughter, Brenda Kay Paul McCaskill; her grandsons, Tawayne McCaskill and Kenneth Paul, Jr.; her sisters, Louise Haisley Oliver, Ellawease Haisley Williams, Betty Haisley Jefferson, and Rosa Haisley McDonald; and her brothers, Arnie Haisley, Bradie Haisley, and Lawrence Haisley.
Mary leaves to cherish her loving memory, her sons, Kenneth Wayne Paul, Sr. (Earlene) and Ronald Isaac Paul; her daughter, Linda Ann Paul Bland; her brother, Isaac Haisley, Jr.; her grandchildren, Don McCaskill, Jr. (Becky), Michael Paul, Sr. (Nicole), Tiffany McCaskill Henderson (William), Alesia Paul, Takeya Bland, Trikenya Paul Stallworth (Keldrick), Teerney Hayward, and Trenton Bland; along with a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and friends.
As a licensed Missionary, Mary was known for her welcome addresses and poem readings, as well as for providing acknowledgements and reflections at funerals. She often worked throughout the community, helping those who were sick and shut-in. She offered mission home Bible study and prayer to those in need as well as provided love donations. She scheduled visits to nursing homes, offered prayer, and passed out small tokens of love. Mary had a zeal for living and being of service to God by helping others in the community and her family.
Mary was a member of the Euchee Valley Cemetery Committee and held various roles to include Secretary, Co-Program Chair, Trustee Board Member, and served on the Fellowship Food Committee.
Mary was involved with the Progressive District Association of West Florida and served as Corresponding Secretary, and Vice President of the Senior Women Ministry and Mission Board (Emeritus). She also served with the Progressive M&E Baptist State Convention of Florida where she was on the Good Samaritan Council, Senior Women Usher Board, and Senior Women Ministry. In 2012, she was presented with an Anchors Award, in recognition of her faithful service.
Mary received many awards and recognitions for her faithful service to the church, community, and various associations. Yet, the honor she cherished most was being chosen to serve as Mother of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church since 2018.
“I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course. I have kept the faith.”
