Sgt. First Class Retired Coy Hooks passed Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at North Okaloosa Medical Center in Crestview, FL. Sgt. Hooks resided in DeFuniak Springs, FL. He was born May 17, 1928 to the late Charlie and Lela Wiggs Hooks in DeFuniak Springs, FL.
Following his graduation from Tivoli High School, he joined the United States Navy, and served during 1945-1946. Pursuing his desire to serve his country, he enlisted I the United States Air Force and served 1951-1953. A few years as a civilian and his desire were still to serve. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1957 and retired in 1971. For ten additional years he worked at Eglin Air Force Base as a civilian.
Survivors are his devoted wife of 28 years, Pamela; daughters: Doris Inman (Will), Charlotte Hooks; sons: Vincent Hooks and Daryl Hooks; grandchildren: Fredrick Hooks (Pearl), Coyette Inman, Terrell Hooks, Pastor Lakisah Brinson (Mickey) and Candace Goodson; sister: Missionary Barbara A. Smith; sisters-in-law: Becky Hooks, Ann Hooks, Tina Okafor (Tony), Laurie Tucker, Tracey Paul (Hubert), Vanessa Parker; nieces: Linda Patton (Elder Samuel), Loannva Stater, Sheila Hooks, Bonnie Hemphill (Alvin), Gwen Scott, Joann Jones, Doreen Kenyon, Marlene Pryor (Kennedy); nephews: the Reverend Ernest Powell (Pamela), Michael Young, Robert Powell (Doris), Anthony Hooks (Saundra), Ronnie Hyatt (Martha), Charles Hooks, Jr., Jeffery Tullis (Robin), Charles Jones (Halima), Butch; mother-in-law: Mary Parker; stepmother, Ruby Hooks; a host of aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 4, 2013, 2 PM, Union Springs Missionary Baptist Church, DeFuniak Springs, FL with the Pastor Anthony Johnson officiating.
He was laid to rest in the Magnolia Cemetery with military honors.
