My innermost feelings I never need to hide,
As you instinctively can tell when I’m crying inside,
And though you may not have the words to relieve my despair,
You prove through your actions how genuinely you care.

I can strive for my goals, confident of your backing,
Yet knowing you’ll plainly tell me where my judgment is lacking,
Being frank, open and honest, displaying transparency,
And never couching your language in empty flattery.

Yes, you’re in no way a hypocrite, with two or more faces,
With whom I can’t be myself, having to adopt airs and graces,
For I can safely bare my heart’s secrets, and anything say,
Resting assured that my confidence you will never betray.

For the friendship we enjoy is truly a two way street,
Where the shared, common ground upon which always we meet
Is that of mutual love and respect, along with care and concern,
As we both only take, when we give as much in return.

And I’m so glad as a friend into my life you came,
For, though you know all about me, you love me just the same,
Looking beyond my shortcomings and mistakes of the past
To my potential and what I may achieve yet at last.

So I thank God for the privilege of a friendship that’s true,
For you enrich and refine me, affirming my value;
And I realize companionship, love and indeed sacrifice
Are blessings upon which one could never put a price.
