Deloris (Green) Holmes

December 28, 1923 ~ April 23, 2015 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Mrs. Deloris Holmes of Crestview, FL went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at her home.

Deloris Green was born in Mobile, Alabama, on December 28, 1923 to Robert and Floretta Green. She was the last surviving member of a family of five children (three boys and two girls).

She  enjoyed a long, rich and purpose-filled life, having accepted Christ at an early age. She was a long-time member of Park Street Church of God in Christ, under the late Elder Willie Moore, and until the time of her illnes, Pastor Walter  Ales.

Deloris was an accomplished seamstress, having learned her craft under the apprenticeship of her father, who himself was a master tailor. She later used these skills to help develop the family dry-cleaning business by providing its customers with quality alteration services. Sine she wasgood with both people and figures, she also managed the customer service side of the business. Deloris was a trained cosmetologist and beauty consultant. She befriended a classmate who would later turned out to be her sister-in-law. Deloris was a product of the Mobile County School System.

On December 29, 1943, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Marion Holmes of the DeFuniak Springs, Florida. To this union six children were born, four sons and two daughters. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Marion; great grandson, Marion IV; three brothers: Robert, Bill and Peter and one sister: Alberta.

Deloris lived a Christ-centered life, one that reflected an unabiding faith that all things are possible through God. She enjoyed people and was a consummate optimist. She lived by her faith and was never deterred by fear or doubt. Deloris showed extraordinary confidence and courage when facing adversiites. She wsa a kind of person that accentuated the positive, choosing to see the good in others rather than focus on the bad. Even in the final hours of a long and sometimes difficult journey, she flashed her God given "trademark smile" with a sparkle in her eyes as to say - "everything is going to be all right". Her children and family were always a priority. She expected them not only to be blessed and prosper, but to reach out to others, expecially those in need. She believed in the power of love and forgiveness and sought to be a living example for her children and their descendants for generations to follow.

On the morning of April 23, 2015, Deloris departed her physical life peacefully in her sleep.

To cherish and honor her life she leaves her sons: Marion Holmes, Jr., and Alonzo Holmes (Carolyn) all of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, Timothy Holmes (Felicia) of St. Cloud, Florida and don Homes (Margaret) of Tallahassee, Flroida; daughters: Gloria Davis of Crestview, Florida and Celestine Dixon of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; she is also survived by a host of grandchidlren, nieces, nephews, cousins and family friends.
